TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Australian firefighters visiting Taiwan issued an apology on Saturday (Nov. 11) for consuming beer on Taipei's Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) system, an incident that was captured by vigilant online users.

The firefighters publicly showcased their payment receipt, signifying their compliance with the imposed penalties for their actions.

In accordance with Taiwan's Mass Rapid Transit Act, passengers found eating or drinking in prohibited areas within the MRT system can face fines ranging from NT$1,500 to NT$7,500.

The Australian firefighters' trip to Taiwan was undertaken to promote disaster preparedness concepts and foster international camaraderie. During their visit, they engaged in a calendar photoshoot, exchanged ideas with Taiwanese firefighters, and savored local delicacies, including the (in)famous stinky tofu.
