TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Minister of Economic Affairs Wang Mei-hua praised the strengthening of industry relations between Taiwan and Japan during the opening ceremony of the 2023 Japan-Taiwan Image Exhibition on Thursday (Nov. 9).

A surge in investments from leading Japanese companies, including the vacuum pump giant Ebara, the prominent electronics supplier Fujifilm, and various semiconductor factories, is expected to significantly boost Taiwan's economy. Wang Mei-hua projected these investments to reach an extraordinary value of NTD$10 billion.

 


Highlighting the growing interest of Japan in Taiwan's semiconductor sector, Wang pointed out the maturity of Taiwan's supply chain. She highlighted that Taiwan's semiconductor leader TSMC is advancing with construction projects in Kumamoto, aiming to establish its first operational base overseas soon.

Wang emphasized the importance for Taiwan to intensify the implementation of low-carbon and smart technologies to forge a sustainable future. She noted significant advancements in energy control systems, such as solar energy storage and electric vehicles, aligning with Japan's smart city initiatives.

Discussing hydrogen power, Wang recognized Japan as a pioneering force and urged Taiwan to match Japan's commitment in developing technologies for harnessing usable hydrogen energy. She also called for exploring collaborative opportunities in infrastructure development.
