TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Minister of Economic Affairs Wang Mei-hua confirmed on Thursday (Oct. 26) that Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) has been allocated an area in the Central Taiwan Science Park in Taichung (CTSP). TSMC will decide the details of the plans.
In October, TSMC withdrew its third-phase plans to move into the Longtan Science Park in Taoyuan following strong protests from residents. After this, rumors circulated about where the company's nano-factory lines would be relocated.
Wang stated that TSMC's office expansion is strategically significant for the country's economy and national security. The National Science and Technology Council (NSTC) will evaluate land usage needs.
Meanwhile, two types of Nvidia chips are facing export controls following the US chip ban, which came into effect earlier than expected. Wang believes that most Taiwanese businesses, which manufacture products based on customer demand, will not be directly affected.
