DPP Lai inaugurates campaign HQ, Tsai voices support (TVBS News)
NEW TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) presidential candidate Lai Ching-te also inaugurated Saturday (Nov. 4) his campaign headquarters in New Taipei City.
Speaking to a massive crowd, President Tsai Ing-wen voiced strong support for Lai, criticizing the alleged Blue-White coalition as a self-interest alliance.
In her speech, President Tsai urged citizens to continue on the right path and to work together for Taiwan, allowing the DPP to stay in power. She said a "people's coalition" (全民合) would be better than the proposed Blue-White partnership.
Tsai emphasized the need for political parties to collaborate to benefit the people and the nation rather than pursuing selfish interests. She criticized her opponents for lacking a clear governance vision and not disclosing their policy plans to the public, accusing them of merely attempting to erase progressive achievements.
Regarding the Blue-White coalition's advocacy of a coalition government, Lai only sees this as viable when no party secures an absolute majority.
Lai also dispelled misconceptions about the DPP's dominance, pointing out that in this democratic era, the DPP's legislative majority reflects the spirit of democratic and party politics.
