Terry Gou, Lai Pei-hsia submit petition for presidential candidacy (TVBS News)
TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Independent presidential candidate Terry Gou and his running mate, Lai Pei-hsia, submitted a petition to the Taipei City Election Commission on Wednesday (Nov. 1).
Following the submission, Gou addressed a crowd outside the administrative center in the Xinyi district, signifying the day as of great importance.
Gou emphasized the significance of each signature on the petition and promised to press forward courageously, saying, "We are here to voice the Taiwanese people's pursuit of democracy and freedom."
Regarding the number of signatures submitted, Gou stated that his campaign office would provide more details later.
In compliance with the Central Election Commission (CEC) regulations, to register as presidential and vice presidential candidates, Gou and Lai need to submit petitions containing 289,667 signatures by Nov. 2.
The CEC will announce the petition results by Nov. 14, followed by candidate registrations from Nov. 20-24.
In early Oct., Gou announced that he had already received more than 300,000 signatures, surpassing the threshold.
