Ko Wen-je agrees to party negotiations with KMT (TVBS News)
TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Ko Wen-je, the Taiwan People's Party (TPP) presidential nominee, has agreed to allow party negotiations to take place between his party and the main opposition Kuomintang (KMT) on Thursday (Oct. 26).
Earlier in the day, KMT candidate Hou Yu-ih suggested that a democratic primary or the use of public polls may not be enough and proposed party negotiations as a potential solution for collaboration between TPP and KMT. Ko stated that although there is no fixed method for possible collaboration, the goal should be to win the election.
Ko agreed to party negotiations and added that victory in the election is more important than individual rivalries. He confirmed his chairman-to-chairman relationship with KMT Chairman Eric Chu but recognized Hou's essential role in upcoming discussions.
Ko remained non-committal when questioned about potential discussion timelines, stating that "both sides should reach out first."
