Premier voices gov’t support for Hon Hai amid Chinese audits

HSINCHU (TVBS News) — Premier Chen Chien-jen announced on Monday (Oct. 23) that the government had maintained consistent communication with Hon Hai Precision Industry Co. Ltd. in response to Chinese authorities' tax and land audits targeting the tech manufacturing giant.

The rigorous inspections of Foxconn, a key subsidiary of Hon Hai, by Chinese administrative departments have caught the attention of many.

Despite Hon Hai's insistence on "active cooperation" with the audits, its shares witnessed a visible decline in Taiwan's stock market on Monday.

With Hon Hai's founder, Terry Gou, announcing his independent presidential bid, questions have arisen about his ability to distance himself financially from China's influence and pressure.

As Taiwan approaches its presidential election season, the government reaffirms its commitment to considering the needs of Taiwanese businesses, positioning itself as a reliable ally.
