THSR and TRA to add extra services for National Day holiday (TVBS NEWS)
TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Taiwan High Speed Rail (THSR) and Taiwan Railways Administration (TRA) announced on Wednesday (Oct. 4) plans to add extra services during the upcoming Double Tenth national holiday to prevent overflowing crowds.
The THSR will add 190 trains, while the TRA is adding 12 more, and for the first time, all seats on EMU3000 will be unassigned. Travelers should keep an eye on the train schedule updates.
The THSR warns that three peak periods — Friday from 5 to 8 p.m., Saturday from 8 to 11 a.m., going south, and next Tuesday from 1 to 8 p.m. returning north — will likely increase congestion.
TRA's EMU3000 trains, running from Changhua to Qidu next Monday and Tuesday, will have a limited capacity of 900 passengers per service. Online ticket booking will open on Friday at midnight.
Though there could also be temporary additional trains during the holiday, some passengers complained that the existing assigned-seat trains are still insufficient.
