TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Premier Chen Chien-jen vowed on Tuesday (Sept. 3) to defend freedom of speech and counter threatening conducts in response to Lin Yu-hung's false claims of receiving death threats.
Lin, the administrator of the Facebook page "Linbay Hao You," claimed he had received death threats after his aggressive criticism of imported eggs, causing public uproar.
However, investigations showed he had orchestrated the entire incident. Kuomintang member Hsu Che-pin, who participated in the ploy, has been detained.
Premier Chen stressed that rational discourse should be used to establish facts, expressing his hope for the judiciary to resolve this matter soon to ease public anxiety.
Regarding the egg issue, Premier Chen stated that a recent joint inspection by the central and local governments found no anomalies in eggs. The Taiwan Food and Drug Administration has improved the labeling of egg sources to enhance food safety for the public.
