Agriculture Ministry seeks investigation into egg rumors

TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan's Ministry of Agriculture is seeking an official investigation in response to rumors swirling about spoiled green eggs bought from a supermarket, despite being a week away from their expiration date. 

Reports were filed with the Zhongzheng Second Precinct of the Taipei City Police Department earlier that day. The move aims at leveraging law enforcement resources to expose the truth behind the allegations.

The rumor, initially circulated on the Internet by a consumer claiming that eggs from Tai Nong turned black and green upon breaking, has sparked a frenzy of public attention. Premier Chen Chien-jen dismissed these claims as "fake news."

Unable to independently authenticate the source of the tainted eggs, the Ministry of Agriculture has adopted a proactive stance by involving the police. This step is primarily to prevent the spread of misinformation by actors with malicious intent.

In the wake of widespread media coverage about the rotten green eggs, the Ministry of Agriculture implored the public to refrain from disseminating false information that harmfully influences the reputation of domestically produced eggs and stokes unnecessary panic. The Ministry gently reminded the public that spreading false information could have legal consequences.
