TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The demolition of the Dazhi apartment building began on Tuesday (Sept. 26) at 9:30 a.m., with Taipei Deputy Mayor Lee Shu-chuan overseeing the operation.
Lee expressed confidence in completing the demolition safely within 10 days, and concerned residents are being offered temporary housing in nearby hotels. Reservations are available at Dahu Park Hotel until Oct. 11.
However, residents living near the site remain apprehensive about safety during the demolition. In response to residents' concerns, Lee reassured them that they would prioritize safety throughout the whole operation.
The demolition has also raised concerns among residents of the double-numbered houses opposite these buildings. Lee explained that they could relocate to a nearby hotel and ask for compensation with receipts.
Regarding the future residences of the 25 households whose homes are being demolished, Lee said a briefing about the urban redevelopment plan will unfold on Sept. 28, and all affected residents are welcome to join and discuss further plans.
After a thorough evaluation, the Taipei court confirmed that Kee Tai's assets exceed its debts, providing assurances that full compensation can be provided to all affected parties.
