Taichung mayor reinstates NT$600 vouchers on Teachers’ Day (TVBS News)
TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taichung Mayor Lu Shiow-yen announced on Tuesday (Sept. 26) that the Taichung City Government has decided to reinstate the Teacher Appreciation Voucher program, a gesture of gratitude and respect for all educational personnel. The program had been discontinued for seven years due to legal disputes.
Lu stated that each educator in both public and private institutions would be entitled to vouchers worth NT$600. Due to administrative procedures, the allocation might be slightly delayed, but Mayor Lu ensured that disbursement will be completed by Thursday (Sept. 28), following Teachers' Day.
The voucher program was a traditional way for various municipalities to honor educators on Teachers' Day. However, in 2016, the program was suspended over legal issues. Mayor Lu noted that the legal controversies had now been settled, thus allowing the city to resume its distribution of vouchers.
She added that all personnel working in the educational sector, including those in both public and private schools, are eligible for this program, provided they haven't violated criminal or disciplinary laws.
