Kaohsiung fines egg distributors for incomplete info (TVBS News)
KAOHSIUNG (TVBS News) — The Department of Health of the Kaohsiung City Government fined two companies, Tainung Egg Products Co. and Sin Sing Eggs Ltd., for not being transparent about the source of their imported egg products. The companies have been fined a total of over NT$10 million in the past 10 days.
The companies have been fined for irregularities in egg product circulation amounting to NT$2.8 million and NT$500,000, respectively. They received additional fines of NT$4 million each on Sept. 24.
Wang Hsiao-hsing, chief secretary of Kaohsiung's Health Department, explained that the destination of approximately 4 million egg products remains uncertified. On Sept. 13, the case was forwarded to the local prosecutor's office for further investigation.
The Taipei City Department of Health also asked the National Animal Industry Foundation to provide data about Brazilian egg imports, but they only shared public information on Sept. 22. Taipei Mayor Chiang Wan-an is set to announce the details of the fine on Sept. 25, with the maximum penalty limit set at NT$3 million.
