Update: Pingtung factory explosion leaves 5 dead, 5 missing

PINGTUNG (TVBS News) — Authorities announced Saturday (Sept. 23) that the Pingtung factory explosion a day earlier resulted in 5 dead, 5 missing, 2 in critical condition, and at least 98 injured.

The explosion that occurred at Launch Technologies, a golf equipment manufacturer, significantly impacted the surrounding area. Windows were shattered, and the force of the blast was felt deeply in nearby residences. 

In response to the disaster, the Pingtung County government has suspended classes at Cian-Jin Elementary School for a day to ensure the safety of the students.

The firefighters rescued most victims at 7:30 p.m. on Friday while the fire raged on site.

For urgent care, the victims have been dispatched to several hospitals, including the Pingtung Christian Hospital, Kaohsiung Chang Gung Memorial Hospital, Pingtung Veterans General Hospital, and Paochien Hospital.
