Hou Yu-ih shares ’unique background’ with U.S. officials (TVBS News)
TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Kuomintang presidential candidate Hou Yu-ih proudly shared his unique background in law enforcement during his visit to Capitol Hill on Monday (Sept. 18) for a closed-door meeting with three Republican members of Congress.
Hou shared his real-world experience in combating criminals that would be utilized to protect the country.
The New Taipei City mayor also met with Brookings Institution scholars Richard C. Bush and Bonnie Glaser in Washington D.C., later heading to the American Institute in Taiwan (AIT) headquarters for a meeting with Chairwoman Laura Rosenberg.
In the afternoon, Hou extensively discussed with Republican Representatives Pete Sessions, Mike Garcia, and Keith Self at Capitol Hill.
The focus of the conversation revolved around Taiwan-U.S. relations, national defense, and cross-strait issues. The congress members expressed keen interest in Hou's career in law enforcement.
Garcia, a retired pilot who once operated an F/A-18 Hornet, and Self, who also has military service experience, had a friendly discussion with Hou about their respective service to their countries.
