TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Typhoon Khanun moved away from Taiwan on Friday (Aug. 4), heading toward Japan. The Central Weather Bureau (CWB) lifted the land warning at 5:30 a.m. and the sea warning at 11:30 a.m. as the typhoon's intensity weakened.

According to the CWB, the center of Typhoon Khanun was approximately 350 kilometers northeast of Taipei and moving in a northeast-east direction with decreasing intensity.

Although the typhoon's outer circulation is still affecting the region, the high winds and waves at sea persist today. People are advised to avoid venturing to the seaside, especially in the northern coastlines of Taiwan and Matsu, where waves could exceed 5 meters.

The prevailing southwest winds might cause thunderstorms in western regions and heavy rain in the northern mountainous areas. Central and southern mountainous regions could also experience severe heavy rainfall.

Strong gusts of wind could occur in areas such as Orchid Island, Green Island, Keelung's northern coastline, and regions north of Hsinchu, Yilan, Taitung, and the open coastal areas of the Hengchun Peninsula. The public is urged to exercise caution and stay vigilant.

Foehn winds may occur in eastern Taiwan, so people are reminded to be cautious and stay hydrated. Despite the typhoon veering away, unstable weather conditions may persist until the weekend, and the CWB reminds everyone to remain vigilant.
