TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Taiwan People's Party (TPP) found itself embroiled in controversy over the weekend regarding its English slogan, "Vote White, Vote Right," which drew concerns from foreign observers who interpreted it as endorsing white supremacy.

The TPP promptly removed the slogan from circulation in response to the mounting criticism. They clarified that the phrase was originally intended to signify support for the party and not to promote any form of white supremacy, which they asserted does not exist in Taiwan.

Lin Tzu-yu, a spokesperson for the TPP, explained that the slogan was initially intended to convey the message that "voting for the white power of the People's Party is the right choice." However, given the misinterpretation and the sensitivity surrounding the issue, the TPP responded swiftly by eliminating the ambiguous slogan.

Lin further expressed the party's commitment to improving the English proficiency of their content editors to ensure more accurate messaging in the future. In this endeavor, Party Secretary General Chou Tai-chu, with a background in diplomacy and his international affairs team, will oversee English-related content to enhance scrutiny and avoid any potential misunderstandings.

The controversy was exacerbated when TPP lawmaker, Lai Hsiang-ling, linked the contentious slogan to former U.S. President Donald Trump on Facebook. Lin attributed this association to the editor's overenthusiastic attempt to convey the party's original intent.

The Taiwan People's Party responded promptly to the concerns raised by foreign observers, removing the controversial slogan and clarifying its intended meaning. The party aims to improve its English communication and content accuracy under the supervision of experienced individuals with expertise in international affairs.
