Taiwan aims for success at Chengdu 2023 FISU Games

CHENGDU, China (TVBS News) — The Chinese Taipei delegation aims to succeed in the Chengdu 2023 FISU World University Games from Friday (July 28) to Aug. 8. This year, our country has assembled a 319-member delegation, including 212 athletes, 55 coaches, 4 team doctors, and 21 sports trainers.

Originally scheduled to be held in Chengdu, Sichuan Province, China, in 2021, the 31st edition of the Summer World University Games was postponed due to the pandemic. On June 24, 2022, the International University Sports Federation (FISU) announced that the event would unfold in the summer of 2023.

 


Taiwan is set to achieve good results throughout the 12-day events. Well-known athletes like judoka Yang Yung-wei, artistic gymnast Lee Chih-kai, swimmer Wang Kuan-hung, and many others compete on the international stage.

The Chinese Taipei delegation will participate in 16 different sports events, including athletics, swimming, artistic gymnastics, rhythmic gymnastics, table tennis, badminton, tennis, fencing, judo, taekwondo, archery, basketball, volleyball, shooting, rowing, and wushu.

Taiwan's archery team had already achieved good results before the games started. Taiwanese archers Tang Zong-han, Kuo Yu-cheng, and Chang Yi-chung defeated Italy with a score of 5-3 in the qualification rounds in Archery's Recurve Men's Team event on Thursday (July 27), advancing to the gold medal match against South Korea scheduled on Sunday.
 


Taiwanese athletes are arriving in Chengdu and are seen practicing in the training center, hoping to grab medals and thrust Taiwan onto the international stage.
