Ko watches ’Barbie’ Movie in response to misogynist comment (TVBS News)
TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan People's Party (TPP) chairman and presidential candidate Ko Wen-je has faced controversy over a string of disrespectful comments toward women, leading to concerns about a "feud with women."
In response to the controversy, Yu Mei-ren, a legislative hopeful, invited Ko to watch "Barbie" for insights on gender equality. She expressed hope that regardless of gender, gender equality issues, or stereotypes, Ko could gain significant insights from the movie.
Following the invitation, Vivian Huang — campaign manager for Ko, confirmed via social media that Ko and his wife attended a showing of "Barbie" at a local cinema.
Also, Internet personality Liu Yu disclosed that Ko's staff intends to host a "Ko Wen-je Sister Tea" gathering in Taipei City. The event, aims at shedding Ko's negative image, will supposedly be held in the grand hall of Di Hua Dianhua, capable of seating 651 people.
Preparations for the event have sparked a new ripple of discontent as the Ko camp reportedly encourages female supporters to participate in the "women-only event." Liu contested the tactic, questioning, "Can inviting hundreds of girls to attend the 'women-only event' truly wipe clean the 'feud with women' label?"
