TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Taiwan government's expanded rent subsidy program, which aims to assist residents in coping with housing costs, is again accepting applications. The deadline for submission is 5 p.m. on Dec. 31. This initiative, implemented by the Construction and Planning Agency under the Ministry of the Interior, targets the general public and tenants throughout Taiwan.
Eligible households can apply for the subsidy through the official website or by obtaining an application form from the local government offices nearest their rental location. The application process requires filling out the necessary information and submitting relevant documents, which can be sent by registered mail to the municipal or county government of the rental area.
Last year, the program approved subsidies for 278,000 households under the NT＄30 billion budget. The subsidy amount ranged from NT＄2,000 to NT＄8,000 per month per household, depending on the rental location and the number of family members.
Additionally, certain groups, including single young adults, newlyweds, families with children, and economically or socially disadvantaged individuals, could qualify for an additional subsidy of 1.2 to 1.8 times the standard amount.
Government officials have emphasized that the rent subsidy program will become a regular feature, with Vice Premier Cheng Wen-tsan stating: "It will be available every year." Minister of the Interior Lin Yu-chang has also expressed the government's commitment to increase the number of subsidized households from last year's 278,000 to the ambitious target of 500,000 this year.
