TAIPEI (TVBS News) —Taiwan is becoming an aging society, leading to an uptick in retirees reentering the job market in recent years. Many elderly individuals desire to stay connected with the community and experience personal growth.

A senior worker at a restaurant, Hsiang Ke-ke, said that staying at home after retirement makes her scared of slowly developing dementia.

"I thought I could start working again and learn and interact with young people to prevent deterioration," she said.

In response to labor shortages across various industries in Taiwan, businesses and companies seek to hire middle-aged and elderly individuals to address job vacancies.

"People in their encore careers cherish the high stability it offers and bring valuable experiences from their past workplaces to their current job," restaurant administration manager Chang Chia-ling shared.

However, retirees may encounter difficulties securing positions that align with their previous careers and desired salary levels.

Seniors Talent Resource Center counselors explained that many elders are dissatisfied with the recommended positions.

Nonetheless, the Workforce Development Agency encourages individuals to prolong their working lives, as the duration of employment impacts the monthly labor pension one can receive. This incentivizes workers to accumulate more funds by working for more extended periods.

Achieving an enjoyable retirement is a cherished aspiration for employees who have dedicated significant years to their work. By formulating a well-thought-out plan, individuals can continue to foster personal growth and attain a satisfying retirement.
