TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) said Wednesday (May 17) that the visit of former British Prime Minister Liz Truss was made possible by the Prospect Foundation, which also sponsored the event.

According to MOFA, Truss received an invitation from the think tank Prospect Foundation, which primarily receives funding from the National Security Council (NSC) and MOFA.

In the past, the Prospect Foundation has also extended invitations to Shinzo Abe, Robert O'Brien, and Mike Pompeo to visit Taiwan. The foundation assumes responsibility for relevant expenses, adhering to MOFA's regulations regarding inviting foreign guests.

During a speech at a forum organized by the Prospect Foundation on Wednesday (May 17), Truss stated, "I was invited to visit by the Taiwan government."

She added: "My belief is that they are in the best position to represent the Taiwanese people as the democratically elected government and understand what measures would benefit Taiwan's cause."

Truss arrived in Taiwan on Tuesday evening for a five-day visit, marking her as the first former UK prime minister to visit Taiwan since Margaret Thatcher's last visit in 1996.
