TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taipei City Mayor Chiang Wan-an received a series of "gifts" from both the Kuomintang (KMT) Party and opposition parties during his first administrative report in the City Council on Thursday (April 13).
Despite receiving banners and encouragement from members of his party, opposition party councilors seized the opportunity to provide some constructive criticism.
Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) City Councilor Wang Shih-cheng gifted the mayor a screwdriver, urging him to improve his performance. At the same time, City Councilor Lin Yen-feng presented a framed quote advising Chiang against being too overconfident.
Furthermore, another city councilor of Taiwan People's Party (the party of former Taipei City Mayor Ko Wen-je) gifted Chiang with a policy white paper from previous mayoral candidate Huang Shan-shan, "just in case Chiang needed reference" on how to govern a city.
Chiang appeared hesitant to accept these gifts and took to the stage to present his 70-minute-long before opposition party members aired their grievances and concerns on the floor.
