NEW YORK (TVBS News) — Taiwan President Tsai Ing-wen was greeted by the chairperson of the American Institute in Taiwan (AIT) and Taiwan's representative to the U.S., Hsiao Bi-khim, upon arrival in New York.
This marks the first time Laura Rosenberger has met President Tsai in person since her appointment as AIT Chair.
Tsai gave a brief speech on the plane explaining that with international exchanges resuming after the COVID-19 pandemic, Taiwan will "embark on a journey of democratic partnership."
"Our aim is to deepen cooperation and exchange with our democratic partners," she added.
New York is one of the stopovers Tsai will make during her 10-day trip to visit Guatemala and Belize.
The Taiwan President will make another transit stop in Los Angeles on April 4 before returning to Taiwan on Friday (April 7).
