TAIPEI (TVBS NEWS) — Following the reopening of Taiwan's borders, many of its tourist destinations are witnessing an uptick in foreign travelers, according to reports.

Store managers in Ximending, a bustling shopping district in Taipei, have noted that around one-third of the tourists have returned.

Meanwhile, Taipei 101 has seen a 50% increase in visitors compared to last year. The Tourism Bureau reports that most tourists have come from Japan, South Korea, and Malaysia since the pandemic.

Before the pandemic, mainland China, Japan, Hong Kong, and Macau were the primary sources of visitors.

Despite the change in visitor demographics, Taipei 101 and Ximending remain the top choices for tourists.

Taiwan's night markets are also becoming increasingly popular with foreign visitors.

Moreover, Taiwanese TV dramas have drawn crowds to filming locations such as Dadaocheng.

As the Taiwanese tourism industry continues to recover, stakeholders are optimistic about the future.

With more relaxed border policies and increasing vaccination rates, Taiwan's tourism industry may see a more robust rebound in the coming months.
