TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan is feeling the brunt of a widespread egg shortage due to global events.

With 6.5 million eggs in stock, officials from Taiwan's Council of Agriculture have assured citizens that they don't need to panic buy eggs — yet.

The bird flu outbreak in the U.K. and geopolitical tensions between Russia and Ukraine have caused strain on imports and exports of both chicken feed and eggs into this region of Asia, impacting supply overall.

Rising egg shortages in Taiwan are bringing concern to businesses across various industries as the Chinese New Year approaches.

With an average of 19 to 20 million eggs consumed daily, a shortage of just 2-3 million has put the Taiwanese people on edge for their upcoming celebrations.
