TAIPEI (TVBS News) — There are Millennials and the Gen-Z. But did you know there is now a Generation P? And when it comes to career choices, Generation P is looking for something different.
They are not after a higher salary or looking to save up to buy a car or a home. Instead, they are looking to fulfill their self-worth in their careers and are looking for more flexible and autonomous work schedules.
Hsieh Guo-chen, born in 1985, is an industrial designer of notebooks. Hsieh shared, "Since I am in the industry related to the production of gaming notebooks, the company encourages employees to develop their own interests, so in fact, they have given us the resources and the environment to pursue our own interests.
For example, during my days off, I like to play video games at home. In the process, I will actually know more about my target customers, what they pay attention to, and what they like, so my hobby actually gives me some insight into my job."
Generation P workers are looking for the additional value their career can bring to their lives, balancing their interests with their careers, and not simply working just to work and make an income.
Ho Zhe-wen, secretary-general of the Taiwan Youth Career Innovation Association explained: "In fact, there are many ways to explain Generation P. Generally speaking, one is Purpose, and the other is Playlist. What is the concept of a custom playlist? It allows us to make decisions ourselves."
He added: "The life of many young people in the past may have been driven forward by the expectations of society or their parents and family members. Now more and more young people may not be as influenced by their background."
"They are looking for self-fulfillment and self-influence. They are true to their feelings and their path of pursuing their goals in life, so they may not be as traditional and only look at things such as the salary and benefits," he continued.
The so-called Generation P is a generation of young people who pay attention to personal experience and grew up with digital technology. They are also called the "custom playlist" generation, where they design their life playlists according to their own likes and dislikes.
Money is no longer the only consideration when choosing a job. Compared with financial rewards, the added value that their career brings and a flexible work schedule are more attractive to the new generation.
So what are your priorities when selecting a career? Do you fall into the Generation P mindset?
