TAOYUAN (TVBS News) — Dwight Howard's recent arrival in Taiwan has led to a burst of merchandise sales as fans rush out to buy anything featuring the picture, name, or lucky number 12 over their favorite player.
Fans of former NBA star Dwight Howard lined up outside the National Taiwan Sport University Stadium for hours to buy his merchandising products on Saturday (Nov. 19) — his first game for the Taiwanese basketball team Taoyuan Leopards.
Howard's huge popularity led to brisk sales of 60,000 tickets in just 10 minutes. Fans also went to the stadium earlier to buy one of the 120 VIP seats that started selling 2 hours before the game.
Fans also showed up to the stadium hours before the game to buy his merch such as his conic number 12 jerseys, t-shirts, towels, and pillows.
The fandom also attracted many street food vendors to the site to feed hungry fans.
Howard's next game will be against the Taichung Sun at the National Taiwan University of Sport in Taichung.
