TAIPEI (TVBS News) - In this Taiwanese Hokkien class, students learn to read from their textbooks and some new tablets that use AI pronunciation tools to help them learn. After detecting the student's voices, the AI system can translate and help them improve their Taiwanese Hokkien pronunciation.
The AI system not only assists teachers during class but has also made the learning experience more fun and varied for the students. When the children answer questions on their tablets, they can immediately get the answers.
"When they see the red light or yellow light on the identification system, they want to further challenge themselves and reach a green light, so they will continue to practice," said Yu Chen-ling, an elementary school teacher.
"Since they don't use this language as often in everyday life when practicing with the tablet, they will feel less anxious and will not think everyone can hear me, I am not any good at speaking (Taiwanese Hokkien) and feel shy and do not want to practice speaking," she added.
"So, after we started using this identification system, the chances for the children to practice have increased." she continued. The school is also thinking of new creative ways to use AI, such as creating mini competitions, and using engaging games, to make learning new skills more fun for students. This is something that they can do in class and during their spare time.
