TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Washington has proposed selling Taiwan 100 most advanced Patriot air-defense missiles with radar and support equipment, according to a U.S. Department of State notice obtained by Bloomberg News.

The total value of the deal is reportedly US$882 million. According to the report, the proposal was made under the provisions of an arms sale to Taiwan in 2010.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs didn't respond directly to the proposal, but MOFA spokesperson Joanne Ou commented on the U.S. concern for Taiwan's military safety.

"The Biden administration has announced arms sales to Taiwan six times," Ou said. "This is a full display of the U.S. government's high emphasis on Taiwan's defense needs."

Taiwan military experts, however, are concerned about whether the Taiwanese soldiers will have the ability to use the new equipment.

"The international community is more nervous than us," former deputy commander of the Taiwanese Air Force Chang Yen-ting, said. "It is crucial to have solid training."
