Taiwan braces for temperature rebound (TVBS News)

TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Central Weather Administration (中央氣象署, CWA) announced on Thursday (May 16) that a weakening of the east-to-north monsoon from Friday to the following Sunday will lead to a temperature rebound across Taiwan, with daytime highs reaching around 30 degrees Celsius.

During the same period, eastern Taiwan is expected to experience brief, localized showers, while the western mountainous areas may see short thunderstorms in the afternoon.

According to the CWA, a frontal system will be located off the northern coast of Taiwan on Tuesday and Wednesday next week. This system, coupled with an increase in southwesterly winds ahead of the front, will destabilize the environment and raise the likelihood of localized showers or thunderstorms across the island.

Weather expert Chia Hsin-hsing (賈新興) revealed that from next Thursday until June 13, Taiwan is likely to see above-average rainfall. However, after June 15, the rainfall is expected to decrease, and temperatures will gradually warm up.

Due to radiative cooling, the lowest temperature recorded in Taiwan Thursday morning was a mere 13.3 degrees Celsius in Xihu Township, Miaoli County, with some plains in northern Taiwan also dropping to 15 degrees.

Meanwhile, weather expert Daniel Wu (吳德榮) noted that today's temperatures varied significantly across the island, with the north experiencing 15 to 31 degrees, the central region 18 to 33 degrees, the south 20 to 34 degrees, and the east 16 to 32 degrees.
