TAIPEI (TVBS News) — A weather front brings wet and cool conditions to northern Taiwan starting Friday (March 20) through Saturday (March 21), with heavy rain expected in Yilan and Hualien counties on Taiwan's eastern coast. WeatherRisk (天氣風險), a private forecasting company, projects intermittent rain from Greater Taipei to Miaoli in northwestern Taiwan. Temperatures will range from 22 to 24 degrees Celsius (71.6°F to 75.2°F) in the north and east, and 26 to 29 degrees Celsius (78.8°F to 84.2°F) in central and southern regions.
Chang Chung-chuan (張承傳), a forecaster at the Central Weather Administration (CWA, 中央氣象署), Taiwan's national meteorological agency, warned that a weather front will bring rain to northeastern Taiwan on Friday and Saturday. The northeast monsoon will affect areas north of Taoyuan, the eastern half of Taiwan, and the Hsinchu and Miaoli mountain regions in northwestern Taiwan. Brief afternoon showers are expected over central and southern mountain areas and the Hengchun Peninsula (恆春半島) at Taiwan's southern tip.
The northeast monsoon will weaken on Sunday (March 22), bringing improved weather to the north and east, though brief showers may still occur. Temperatures will rise to 24 to 26 degrees Celsius (75.2°F to 78.8°F) in the north and east, and 28 to 30 degrees Celsius (82.4°F to 86°F) in central and southern Taiwan. Open areas in central, northern, and northeastern Taiwan will experience early morning temperatures dropping to around 14 degrees Celsius (57.2°F).
Weather conditions will stabilize from Monday (March 23) to Tuesday (March 24), with mostly cloudy to clear skies in western Taiwan and brief showers in the east. Chang said a new weather front and a strengthened northeast monsoon will arrive on Friday (March 27), bringing cooler and rainier conditions to the island. Residents should prepare for another round of wet weather by week's end, according to the CWA forecast.
