TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan's Central Weather Administration (CWA, 中央氣象署) forecasts that Tuesday (March 10) will be the coldest and wettest day of the week as a cold air mass moves south. Rain is likely in northern and eastern Taiwan, the Hengchun Peninsula (恆春半島), and mountainous areas. The significant weather shift brings widespread precipitation and a return to winter-like conditions across the island.
CWA forecaster Chu Mei-lin (朱美霖) stated that the cold air mass and moisture from South China will bring noticeable temperature drops across Taiwan starting Tuesday. The Keelung North Coast and Greater Taipei mountain areas will experience the most significant cooling effects, according to the forecaster's official predictions. Chu noted that the weather will turn dry and cold as moisture decreases by Wednesday (March 11), shifting conditions across northern Taiwan throughout the day.
Chu predicted that radiative cooling may bring temperatures down to 14 degrees Celsius (57.2°F) in northern Taiwan during early morning hours. Another cold air mass will arrive Thursday (March 12), bringing further cooling and a shift from wet to dry conditions, according to the forecaster. The second wave will result in significant temperature differences between day and night across Taiwan, affecting residents throughout the week.
TyTech Taiwan | Weather Express (台灣颱風論壇｜天氣特急), a popular weather monitoring group, noted that cold air masses in March are not uncommon in Taiwan. The group stated that the probability of future cold air mass occurrences will decrease after these two waves pass through the region. The second wave, expected Thursday, will bring a dry cold front with less moisture, creating clearer but colder conditions across the island.
