TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Meteorologists predicted an unstable weather pattern in Taiwan on Wednesday (Feb. 25), with increased rainfall chances in the northern and eastern regions. The Central Weather Administration (CWA, 中央氣象署) expected these conditions to persist until Wednesday afternoon, followed by a second cold front on Thursday (Feb. 26) night, bringing a more pronounced northeast monsoon over the weekend.
CWA forecaster Tseng Chao-cheng (曾昭誠) noted increased cloud cover in the north, central north, and eastern regions, with sporadic rain over Yilan and the northern coast. Tseng highlighted a weak northeast monsoon descending from Wednesday, slightly lowering daytime temperatures in the north and Yilan, while the central and southern regions remain mostly unaffected.
Daytime temperatures may rise as the northeast monsoon weakens on Thursday, but Tseng warned of a second cold front approaching by evening, bringing unstable weather and widespread rain on Friday (Feb. 27). The northeast monsoon will intensify over the weekend, potentially dropping nighttime temperatures in the north and Yilan.
Weather expert Wu Der-rong (吳德榮) described the upcoming weather as typical spring conditions with frequent alternations between warm and cold air, leading to significant fluctuations in perceived temperatures. Wu emphasized the likelihood of short-lived rain in northern and eastern Taiwan, with the first cold front passing on Wednesday. He advised residents to prepare for the variable spring weather and the potential for convective rainfall.
