Weather shift expected in Taiwan Wednesday (TVBS News)

TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan's weather bureau issued an alert Wednesday (Feb. 11) warning of temperature drops and scattered rain as a cold front and strengthened northeast monsoon approach the island. The Central Weather Administration (CWA, 中央氣象署) forecast cooler conditions across Taiwan, with northern and northeastern regions experiencing the most significant daytime temperature decline. Residents island-wide should prepare for chilly mornings and evenings through the week.

The administration reported sporadic rainfall will affect Keelung's northern coast, eastern Taiwan, and the Hengchun (恆春) Peninsula from Wednesday (Feb. 11) through Thursday (Feb. 12). Greater Taipei and northern mountain areas face possible isolated showers during this period. Central and southern Taiwan will see mostly cloudy to sunny conditions, offering residents temporary relief from the incoming weather system.

Conditions will shift Thursday (Feb. 12) as the northeast monsoon weakens, bringing a slight temperature increase across the island. However, mornings and evenings will remain cool throughout Taiwan, the CWA warned. Eastern regions and the Hengchun Peninsula will continue experiencing brief rainfall, while most other areas can expect partly cloudy to sunny skies.

The weather bureau forecast sunny to partly cloudy conditions from Friday (Feb. 13) through Saturday (Feb. 15) across most of Taiwan. Western Taiwan residents should prepare for significant temperature swings between day and night during this period. The southeast coast and Hengchun Peninsula will see isolated showers, with eastern regions also facing brief rain on Saturday (Feb. 15).

A second cold front will arrive Sunday (Feb. 16), coinciding with Lunar New Year's Eve, bringing cooler temperatures to northern and northeastern Taiwan. The CWA forecast the northeast monsoon will strengthen on Monday (Feb. 17), further cooling northern and northeastern regions. Sporadic rain is expected in northeastern Taiwan, areas north of Taoyuan, and eastern coastal regions on that day. Isolated showers may affect the southeast and northern mountains, while central and southern Taiwan will remain mostly cloudy to sunny. ◼
