TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Suzuki Ryuya (鈴木龍也) returned to Taiwan on Thursday (Jan. 8) to promote his film "Jinsei" (無名の人生), which premieres across the island on Friday. The film generated buzz at last year's Golden Horse Film Festival, where Suzuki took on multiple roles, including director, screenwriter, and editor.
Suzuki expressed appreciation for the enthusiasm of Taiwanese fans, recalling a post-screening event at Huashan, where hundreds of fans requested his autograph. He drew inspiration for "Jinsei" from his experiences working in a Shinjuku bar, blending real-life stories of idol trainees into the film. Over a year and a half, Suzuki independently produced the film, despite being unemployed for two years until its release.
The COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 forced the bar where Suzuki worked to close, prompting him to explore animation during this challenging period. His mother supported him during production, and their interview is included in the DVD and Blu-ray extras. Suzuki admires high-budget animations like "Demon Slayer" and dreams of directing "Crayon Shin-chan."
As Suzuki contemplates his career path, he considers whether to continue independent filmmaking or join a major production company. He hopes audiences enjoy "Jinsei" and recommend it to friends, aiming to broaden understanding of Japanese culture.
