TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Inter-Parliamentary Alliance on China (IPAC, 對中政策跨國議會聯盟), a cross-national legislative coalition monitoring China policy, released a statement on Tuesday (Dec. 30) condemning China's "Joint Sword-2025A" military exercise around Taiwan. The alliance warned that China's Eastern Theater Command's maneuvers increase the risk of miscalculation and threaten peace in the Indo-Pacific region. IPAC urged governments worldwide to take urgent and coordinated action in response to the exercise.

IPAC stated that the military exercises undermine cross-strait stability and threaten global prosperity, calling for an international response to China's actions. Taiwan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA, 外交部) expressed gratitude toward IPAC for its support and emphasized the importance of peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait. The ministry welcomed the alliance's stance as consistent with international consensus on maintaining the status quo across the Taiwan Strait.

At a routine press conference, Eric Huang (黃鈞耀), director-general of MOFA's Department of European Affairs (外交部歐洲司), welcomed IPAC's statement and noted that maintaining the status quo serves all parties' interests. Huang criticized China's military provocations as intimidation tactics against Taiwan and neighboring countries that challenge the United Nations Charter's principles against the use of force. The actions violate international norms prohibiting threats against sovereign nations, according to Huang.

Chen E-jun (陳怡君), deputy executive director of MOFA's Public Diplomacy Coordination Council (外交部公眾外交協調會), confirmed Taiwan maintains close communication with the United States, Japan, the European Union, and G7 member nations. The diplomatic coordination ensures global awareness and concern over China's military exercises, according to Chen. Taiwan continues to work with international partners to monitor the situation and coordinate responses to regional security developments. ◼
