TAIPEI (TVBS News) — A cold air mass sweeping Taiwan drives temperatures down to 12-14 degrees Celsius (53.6-57.2°F) in northern urban areas Saturday (Dec. 27), with open areas dropping below 10 degrees Celsius (50°F). Meteorologists urge residents to bundle up as the cold front hits Friday. WeatherRisk Explore Inc. (天氣風險公司), a private weather forecasting firm, issued the forecast through senior consultant Wu Sheng-yu (吳聖宇).
The cold front might weaken later that day, but northern and eastern regions face overcast skies and occasional showers. Areas south of Miaoli, a central Taiwan county, expect cloudy to sunny conditions. Wu Sheng-yu projects the front will significantly weaken by Sunday (Dec. 28) as a high-pressure system moves eastward, bringing daytime highs of 20-23 degrees Celsius (68-73.4°F) to northern and northeastern areas.
Northern and eastern regions continue experiencing brief showers Saturday (Dec. 27), though rain decreases later in the day. The precipitation pattern follows typical winter weather systems affecting Taiwan's Pacific-facing coastlines and mountainous terrain. Forecasters expect gradual improvement in conditions as the cold front moves offshore.
Weather conditions improve further Sunday (Dec. 28), with eastern Taiwan experiencing occasional showers while western areas enjoy mostly cloudy to sunny conditions. The new week beginning Monday and Tuesday (Dec. 29-30) brings continued cloudiness and brief showers to northeastern and eastern regions, typical of Taiwan's winter monsoon patterns.
