TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan High Speed Rail (台灣高鐵) announced on Wednesday (Dec. 24) that it will extend the "Youth Discount Program" to winter break, offering students aged 12 to 18 discounted fares from Jan. 24 to Feb. 23. Taiwan High Speed Rail aims to encourage students to travel easily during their holidays by expanding this initiative, which previously only ran during summer.
Ticket sales for this program will begin at midnight on Friday (Dec. 26). Taiwan High Speed Rail has ensured a seamless booking experience via its online ticketing system, the T-EX mobile app, convenience stores, and ticket windows at stations. The company advises passengers using the discount to carry valid photo identification showing their date of birth to avoid any disruption of benefits.
In addition to the youth discounts, Taiwan High Speed Rail will continue its "Field Trip Group" program from Jan. 1 to Feb. 28, excluding peak travel periods. This program now includes government-registered private and public short-term tutorial schools for groups of 11 or more students. High school and junior high students can enjoy a 25% discount on standard cabin reserved seats, while elementary students will receive a 60% discount.
Teachers accompanying these groups also benefit from a 25% discount, with a maximum of two teachers per 11 students. Travelers can check the designated train schedules eligible for these discounts on the official website. As the holiday season approaches, Taiwan High Speed Rail encourages students and educational groups to take advantage of these travel opportunities.
