TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Central Weather Administration (CWA, 中央氣象署) announced a series of weather changes in Taiwan starting on Saturday (Dec. 20), as southern cloud systems move north, bringing scattered showers to the south, eastern, and southeastern regions. Other areas may also experience brief, isolated rainfall.
The administration said that the northeast monsoon is expected to intensify on Dec. 21, bringing cooler weather to the northern and northeastern regions. Greater Taipei, the Keelung north coast, and the northeastern areas may experience brief rain showers, with a chance of heavier precipitation. Taoyuan, the east, southeastern regions, and Hengchun (恆春) Peninsula can expect scattered showers, while other areas remain partly cloudy to clear.
CWA noted that the northeast monsoon will continue to influence on Dec. 22, keeping the northern and northeastern regions cool, with brief showers expected in Keelung's north coast, Greater Taipei's mountainous areas, and the eastern half of the island. The rest of Taiwan will enjoy partly cloudy to clear skies. The administration pointed out that the monsoon would weaken slightly on Dec. 23, leading to a slight temperature rise in the north and northeast. However, the weather remains cool in the mornings and evenings across Taiwan, with significant temperature differences between day and night in areas south of Hsinchu.
Furthermore, the northeast monsoon is expected to turn strengthening again by Dec. 24, bringing cooler temperatures back to the north and northeast. The monsoon's influence will extend from central to northern Taiwan and the northeast on Dec. 25, with scattered showers expected in the north, eastern regions, and Hengchun Peninsula.
