TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Malaysian singer Namewee (黃明志) missed a court hearing in Kuala Lumpur on Thursday (Dec. 18) due to Influenza A, prompting the court to grant a postponement for his drug-related case. Namewee's attorney, Cheng Ching-feng (鄭清豐), confirmed the singer received a three-day medical leave starting Wednesday, supported by medical documentation submitted to the court.
Authorities charged Namewee on Oct. 24 with drug use and possession after he pleaded not guilty to both charges in Kuala Lumpur's Magistrate Courts 1 and 3. The Third Magistrate Court set the drug use case for Dec. 22, while the First Magistrate Court scheduled the drug possession case for Jan. 19, 2026. The postponement affects the scheduled proceedings for both drug-related charges.
Cheng emphasised that this official report is the key piece of evidence in the case, given that the drug urine test results were negative. Regarding this latest development, Namewee, who is currently inactive, has not responded to media inquiries, only posting old work on social media without addressing the charges.
The charges stem from an Oct. 22 incident when Namewee tested positive for multiple drugs at the Kuala Lumpur Jinma Police Headquarters, allegedly violating the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952. That afternoon, police accused him of possessing 5.12 grams of suspected ecstasy in a room at the Banyan Tree Kuala Lumpur (悅榕庄酒店), which also falls under the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, Section 12(2). ◼
