TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Malaysian singer Namewee's (黃明志) attorney revealed on Thursday (Dec. 18) that the singer's drug test came back negative. The negative result could lead to the withdrawal of drug charges in a high-profile case involving the death of Taiwanese influencer Hsieh Yu-hsin (謝侑芯). Attorney Cheng Ching-feng (鄭清豐) informed the court that Namewee's urine test showed no drugs, meaning the drug-related charges cannot be substantiated.
Authorities charged Namewee with drug possession and use in two Kuala Lumpur courts, according to China Press (中國報), a Malaysian newspaper. Namewee has consistently maintained his innocence despite these charges. Cheng informed the court this morning that Namewee was absent due to health issues, stating the prosecution will most likely withdraw the charges given the negative test results.
Cheng requested a hearing scheduled for Monday (Dec. 22), which the magistrate approved given the negative drug test results. Malaysian police extended Namewee's bail until Jan. 11 as investigations continue. New Kuala Lumpur police chief Commissioner Datuk Fadil Marsus (法迪爾) confirmed on Dec. 12 that Namewee remains on police bail, with no evidence linking him directly to the influencer's death. ◼
