TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan's stock market surged Tuesday (Dec. 2), with the weighted index closing up 221.74 points at 27,564.27. Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC, 台積電) drove the rally, rising NT$20 (around US$0.65) to NT$1,430 (around US$46.13), a 1.42% gain.
The weighted index gained 0.81% with a transaction value of NT$469.67 billion (around US$15.15 billion). TSMC peaked at NT$1,440 (around US$46.45) during intraday trading before closing at NT$1,430. Foxconn (鴻海) closed flat at NT$222 (around US$7.16), while Delta Electronics (台達電) rose NT$16 (around US$0.52) to NT$989 (around US$31.90), a 1.64% increase.
Delta Electronics announced a NT$3.733 billion (around US$120.42 million) investment to acquire a 43.12% stake in its subsidiary, Vivotek (晶睿), making it a wholly owned subsidiary. Vivotek's stock hit a limit-up at NT$93.6 (around US$3.02), locked at the ceiling until the close. Demand for specialized fiberglass cloth, spurred by AI applications, has soared and led to a supply shortage.
Nan Ya Plastics (南亞) announced a collaboration with Japan's Nittobo Friday (Nov. 29) to expand supply capacity through complementary production. Nan Ya's stock climbed 5.4% to NT$64.4 (around US$2.08). Formosa Plastics (台塑) closed at NT$43.45 (around US$1.40), up 3.7%, while Formosa Chemicals & Fibre (台化) ended at NT$35.45 (around US$1.14), rising 5.35%, and Formosa Petrochemical (台塑化) finished at NT$53.9 (around US$1.74), up 2.86%. ◼ (At time of reporting, US$1 equals approximately NT$31)
