TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Highway Bureau (交通部公路局) Director Lin Fu-shan (林福山) announced Monday (Nov. 24) the newly constructed Tamkang Bridge (淡江大橋) in New Taipei City will open May 12, 2026, with full vehicle access starting that specific date. An official opening ceremony will be held May 9, 2026, preceding the bridge's operational launch for public use. The new bridge will significantly reduce travel distances between Tamsui District (淡水) and Bali District (八里) in the greater metropolitan area.
Organizers scheduled a major running event for April 18, 2026, offering three race lengths: 21K, 10K, and 5K with participation strictly limited to 7,000 people. Registration opens Thursday (Nov. 27) with fees ranging from NT$600 (around US$19) to NT$1,000 (around US$32) for participants. The races will allow runners to enjoy Tamsui's scenic sunset from the bridge, while photography and painting competitions will raise public awareness about the bridge.
The cycling event, set for April 19, 2026, will feature comprehensive routes connecting significant landmarks across Tamsui and Bali with dual-directional access on Tamkang Bridge. Cycling race categories include a challenging 49K "Mountain Challenge" and a 20K "Tamkang Bridge Leisure Tour" for different skill levels.
