TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan Stock Exchange surged 3.18% Thursday (Nov. 20), gaining 846.24 points to close at 27,426.36 following NVIDIA's strong earnings report. TSMC (台積電) shares jumped NT$60 (US$1.92) to NT$1,455 (US$46.63), a 4.30% increase.
The rally was broad-based with electro-mechanical stocks leading at 3.73%, while cement stocks rose 2.89% and financials gained 1.36%. The non-financial index climbed 792.42 points to 24,288.5 after the market traded between a high of 27,493.63 and a low of 27,183.03.
Investor enthusiasm drove 856 companies higher while only 149 declined and 70 remained unchanged. Powerchip (力積電), Winbond (華邦電), and Nanya Technology (南亞科) dominated trading volume, while Cybertek (榮科) and GCE (金像電) posted the largest percentage gains.
Despite the rally, Concraft (康控-KY) and Alchip (世芯-KY) led market decliners. AI server manufacturers showed strength with Wiwynn (緯穎) gaining NT$130 (US$4.17) to NT$4,280 (US$137.18), up 3.13%, and Wistron (緯創) advancing 4.38% to NT$143 (US$4.58).
