The monetary authority disclosed the redesign initiative in a written report to the Legislative Yuan's Finance Committee (財政委員會), Taiwan's parliamentary finance oversight body. Officials aim to enhance security features and align with international green currency trends through eco-friendly materials and production processes.
Central Bank Governor Yang Chin-long (楊金龍) will present working reports Thursday to the Legislative Yuan (立法院), Taiwan's parliament. The bank cited the current banknotes' 24-year usage and need for advanced anti-counterfeiting features, while confirming no changes to coins. New banknotes will incorporate eco-friendly materials and green production processes reflecting ESG sustainability goals, while retaining current material, primary ink color, and size to minimize societal costs.
The Central Bank plans public involvement in the redesign process through an advisory committee for the New Taiwan Dollar Banknote Theme, seeking diverse opinions to foster acceptance. This transparency initiative aims to ensure broad public support for the new design concept and thematic elements.
