TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Meteorologists issued warnings Monday (Oct. 20) for dangerous rainfall across northern and northeastern Taiwan through Wednesday (Oct. 22). Tropical Storm Fengshen (風神) combines with seasonal northeastern winds, threatening densely populated regions. National Central University (中央大學) professor Wu Der-rong (吳德榮) warned of potential heavy rain disasters.
Taipei's Nangang District (南港區) recorded Taiwan's highest rainfall accumulation at 291.5 mm between Sunday (Oct. 19) and Monday morning (Oct. 20). Wu warned of disaster risks from continued heavy rainfall across northern and eastern regions. Northern Taiwan temperatures will drop to approximately 20 degrees Celsius (68°F).
The Central Weather Administration (中央氣象署), Taiwan's meteorological agency, released forecast maps showing Fengshen moving northwest across the South China Sea toward Hainan (海南) waters. European weather models predict the storm will shift southwest, positioning south of Hainan by Wednesday (Oct. 22) at significant distance from Taiwan.
Wu noted that despite Fengshen's departure, the "autumn typhoon effect" (秋颱效應) will continue impacting Taiwan's weather through Wednesday (Oct. 22). From Thursday (Oct. 23) to Sunday (Oct. 26), as the storm weakens and moves away, Taiwan will experience northeastern seasonal wind patterns. ◼
