TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing (TSMC, 台積電), the world's largest contract chipmaker, reported record-breaking third-quarter results Thursday (Oct. 16). The company posted consolidated revenue of NT$989.92 billion (around US$32.4 billion) and net profit of NT$452.3 billion (around US$14.8 billion). Earnings per share reached NT$17.44 (around US$0.57), marking a historic high.
TSMC's third-quarter revenue surged 30.3% year-over-year, with net profit jumping 39.1% and earnings per share climbing 39.0%. Compared to the previous quarter, revenue grew 6.0% while net profit increased 13.6%. In U.S. dollars, third-quarter revenue reached US$33.1 billion (around NT$1.01 trillion), reflecting a 40.8% year-over-year rise and 10.1% quarterly increase.
The company's gross margin reached 59.5% for the third quarter, with operating profit margin at 50.6% and net profit margin at 45.7%. Advanced process technologies, including 7-nanometer and more advanced processes, contributed 74% of TSMC's wafer revenue. Specifically, 3-nanometer shipments accounted for 23% of wafer sales, while 5-nanometer and 7-nanometer processes contributed 37% and 14% respectively. ◼ (At time of reporting, US$1 equals approximately NT$30.6)
