TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan showcased its tourism industry at ITB Asia in Singapore on Tuesday (Oct. 15), with the Ministry of Transportation and Communications' Tourism Bureau (交通部觀光署) leading business delegations to Marina Bay Sands Expo and Convention Centre (金沙會展中心). The strategic push targets Taiwan's expansion in incentive travel and international conference markets across Asia. Officials emphasized Taiwan's growing influence in the region's competitive tourism landscape.
Paul Shih (施志忠), director of the Tourism Bureau's Singapore office, highlighted Asia's rapidly expanding travel market and Taiwan's strategic positioning within it. The "Waves of Wonder" themed Taiwan Pavilion integrated cultural performances, travel resources, and policy presentations to attract international buyers. Shih emphasized how the exhibition strengthens connections between Taiwanese businesses and global tourism operators, amplifying Taiwan's market influence.
International buyers praised Taiwan's cultural showcase, with U.K. travel agency representative John expressing admiration for the pavilion's performances. He recognized Taiwan as a multicultural society blending technology and cuisine, expressing interest in future collaborations to attract international tourists. The pavilion hosted targeted presentations for European and Southeast Asian buyers, emphasizing Taiwan's MICE — Meetings, Incentives, Conventions, Exhibitions — industry capabilities.
Shih emphasized cultural experiences as fundamental to Taiwan's tourism and MICE promotion strategies, distinguishing the island's international identity. The Tourism Bureau plans continued efforts to establish Taiwan as Asia's premier MICE and tourism destination. These initiatives reflect Taiwan's broader ambition to capture greater market share in the region's lucrative business travel and conference sectors. ◼
