TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taichung Mayor Lu Shiow-yen (盧秀燕) leads Taiwan's political approval rankings with a score of 6.36, while President Lai Ching-te (賴清德) suffers the most significant decline, according to Global Views Monthly (遠見雜誌) survey released Tuesday (Sept. 30). Taiwan People's Party, a centrist political party, chairman Huang Kuo-chang (黃國昌) ranks last with 4.32 in the comprehensive political sentiment assessment. The survey reveals shifting public confidence in Taiwan's political leadership amid economic and social challenges.
Taipei Mayor Chiang Wan-an (蔣萬安) secured second place with 6.14, followed by former President Tsai Ing-wen (蔡英文) at 5.99. Former Taiwan People's Party (TPP, 民眾黨), a centrist political party, chairman Ko Wen-je (柯文哲) scored 4.7 in the rankings. President Lai and Premier Cho Jung-tai (卓榮泰), Taiwan's cabinet head, ranked fifth and seventh respectively, both experiencing notable approval rating declines.
Scholars attribute declining favorability of Democratic Progressive Party (DPP, 民進黨), Taiwan's ruling party, politicians to public dissatisfaction following recent recall attempts. The survey indicates 72.7% of respondents want government prioritization of economic and price stability amid ongoing challenges. Additionally, 65.4% agree Taiwan should maintain a unified stance during periods of international instability and regional tensions.
A majority of 55.4% support strengthening economic and job stability as Taiwan's primary governmental focus. Meanwhile, 32% advocate for promoting dialogue between political parties to reduce increasing polarization across Taiwan's political spectrum. These findings highlight the public's overwhelming desire for stability and cooperation in Taiwan's increasingly fragmented political landscape.
